I have long wanted to read a Neal Stephenson novel, but somehow they prove to be elusive.  Some time ago, I found a Necronomicon hardback at Books for Less in SM Mall of Asia.  But it was so voluminous and expensive that I didn’t buy it.  Earlier, I also found an equally bulky hardback of Volume III of The Baroque Cycle — The System of the World at Book Sale, SM Fairview.

But now, I found another Neal Stephenson book at Book Sale, Alphaland.  It’s a paperback of Volume III of The Baroque Cycle — Odalisque.  I’m just wondering why the paperback of Volume III is now called Odalisque instead of The System of the World???

Wanted: A Grisham Legal Thriller! 02/09/2010

I love John Grisham’s legal thriller!  But lately some of his books have wandered into different territories.  The last Grisham book I’ve read was The Broker.  It’s more of a political thriller than a legal thriller.  I want the old Grisham!  The legal battles in the courtroom.  The great exchanges between opposing lawyers.  The ultimate triumph of good over lawbreakers!

And it seems that in one of his latest books, The Appeal, my wish has finally been granted!  I’ve already got the hardback of The Appeal and it’s proudly displayed in my bookcase.  But I also usually buy a paperback edition so I can read it in my travels, i.e., my MRT commutes.

I have a lot of John Grisham books.  He is my 2nd favorite author, after Stephen King.  I have all his books from The Partner up to The Appeal.  After a visit in Book Sale, Alphaland, I saw A Time to Kill.  I saw the movie but never read the book.  So I bought it.  The movie was excellent and since usually the book is better so I can only assume that the book is more excellent!

Yesterday I didn’t buy The Ghost War by Alex Berenson when I saw it at Book Sale, Alphaland Southgate Mall since the author’s name didn’t ring a bell (although the cover art is somewhat striking!).

When I get home, I checked out some book reviews and that convinced me. Alex Berenson is indeed a new author but his first book is already a bestseller and have also won an Edgar award for best first novel by an American author. The Ghost War is his second book featuring the same protagonist, John Wells, a CIA agent.  So this book is part of a new hit series.

Earlier today, I went to Book Sale and eagerly bought the book without hesitation.

For other books, I don’t usually buy several editions.  But for Stephen King books, I make exceptions.  So the minute I saw the 1408 movie tie-in version of Everything’s Eventual at Book Sale, Alphaland Southgate Mall, I bought it right away.  Now, I have three editions of Everything’s Eventual.  The hardback, paperback and the movie tie-in edition.
